Employee Spotlight: Support Staff

IFAS Information Technologies has many talented and knowledgable people who's responsibility it is to provide computer support to the faculty and staff of IFAS. In this itteration of the Employee Spotlight, we'll introduce you to them so that you'll have some idea of who is on the other end of the phone. They are, from Networking Systems, Jason Casiano (follow the links to see their official IT Staff page, including contact information), from Business Systems, Scott Owens, and from the Help Desk, Josh Wilson, Nick Bazin, Chang Zhang, Tom Kirby and Nick Wozniak.

Jason Casiano is originally from Ohio, his family moved to Hawthorne when he was in high school. Possessing considerable computer powers, Jason sought work after high school. Dazzled by seeing such computer knowledge in the hands of such a young man, Network Systems hired him in January of 98. In his spare time, Jason likes to work out and play computer games. 3-D shooters are some of his favorites, and for you other gamers out there, he says that Ultima 9 holds great promise...

Scott Owens is originally from New Jersey, and came to UF as a student, earning a Bachelors in Marketing in 1983. He began his career at UF as a computer operator for the Testing Office and was hired by Business Systems in May, 1996. He got married last spring (congratulations!) and in his spare time enjoys watching sports (especially the home team) and playing golf. No word yet on what his handicap is...

Josh Wilson hails from Vero Beach. He came to UF to study computers, and will earn his CIS degree this spring (early congratulations!). He began working for the Help Desk in May, 1998, and after graduation plans to be a programmer. Josh is quite the movie fan, and says that this year's movies were pretty good. His top three (in no particular order) would be The Matrix (well, that one is number one for sure, he says), Entrapment and Deep Blue Sea. When you watch the Oscars this year, remember that Josh said it first...

Nick Bazin grew up in Fort Meyers and started school at CFCC. He's taken one semester here at UF, but plans on finishing his Bachelors in Business Administration, specializing in CIS, online at St. Leo University, which is in Tampa. Besides coming to work (he's been with the Help Desk since April, 1999), Nick has a passion for acting. You may have seen him in the local productions of View of the Dome with Rapscalions of the Periphery or Oklahoma! with High Spring Community Theater (not that you'd recognize him from his photo). Look for him this year at the Hoggetowne Medieval Faire, he'll be Brother Theo, the monk...

Chang Zhang is Chinese, his family moved to Gainesville in 1988. He completed his CIS in Business Administration degree here at UF in May, 1998, and began working for the Help Desk in April, 1999. Chang likes websurfing and chatting with his friends online, and also trades stocks online (though he claims not to be a day trader). Unfortunately, he'll be moving to Atlanta at the end of this month, but we know he'll make a big splash there. Good luck, Chang!...

Tom Kirby, the elder statesman of the Help Desk (married for 19 years and the proud father of two), started in October of last year. After working as a Sprinkler Irrigation Subcontractor (even running his own shop) for 15 years, he decided to go back to school. He earned associate degrees in Computer Engineering Technician and Electrical Engineering Technician at Santa Fe Community College, and has considerable computer knowledge. In his free time, Tom likes spending time with is family and fishing. We have yet to actually see any of the fish he's 'caught'...

Nick Wozniak (no relation to Steve Wosniak) hails from Auburndale, FL. He came to UF in 1997, pursuing a CIS degree, and began working for us at the beginning of the year. Nick spends his free time fiddling with computers and rooting for the Gators and the Bucs. He also juggles on occasion, so now Charlie has a new "pin pal"...

Now that you know something about the folks who help keep IFAS running, remember to contact them if you have a computer problem!
