1998 CD-ROMs From UF/IFAS

During 1998 UF/IFAS Office of Information Technologies produced and assisted in the production of six CD-ROMS covering a wide range of subject matter.

THE FLORIDA CITRUS CD-ROM

The Florida Citrus CD-ROM is a comprehensive citrus database for use by Florida citrus growers and experts, County Extension Agents, and homeowners. It provides information on such topics as citrus varieties, nutrition, irrigation and water management, cold protection, pest control, grove management, and laws and safety standards. The disc contains the latest version of the Florida Citrus Pest Management Guide, which includes pesticide and rate recommendations for a variety of citrus pests. Interactive programs are included on the Florida Citrus CD-ROM.

TROPICAL FRUITS

Designed for commercial growers, homeowners and county extension agents, Tropical Fruits is an interactive, multimedia, diagnostic expert system. It contains the TFRUIT*Xpert diagnostic system and more than 60 extension fruit crop disorder publications, as well as pest and disease management guides. The disc helps identify disorders of avocado, carambola, lychee, papaya, mango and "Tahiti" lime.

FLORIDA PLANT SELECTOR

Finding the right plant for the right place can be a daunting task. The Florida Plant Selector is designed to make these decisions easier. By choosing conditions that match your specific requirements, you will be presented with a list of appropriate plants from which to choose. More than 600 Florida annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vines and ground covers are represented, with color photographs and detailed information about each plant. The disc also can be used to identify plants you don't recognize. Indexed by common and scientific names.

THE WOODYBUG CD-ROM

WoodyBug is a computerized, hypertext knowledgebase of pest and beneficial arthropds of woody ornamentals of the southeast United States. The pests species are listed under the major categories of: aphids, borers, chewing insects, galls, lace bugs, leafminers, scales, spider mites, thrips and whiteflies. There is extensive Integrated Pest Management information that covers, in depth, such topics as host plant resistance, biologically compatible pesticides, scouting, monitoring and beneficial organisms.

PESTS IN AND AROUND THE HOME

Pests In and Around the Home is a computerized knowledgebase of pests of structures, lawns and landscapes. The CD-ROM contains information on pest biology, life cycle, identification, distribution, damage, and management. The knowledgebase stresses the principles of Integrated Pest Management. The program format allows users to quickly access hundreds of scientific definitions, 150+ graphics and 300+ full-color photographs.

MCRICKET CD-ROM

MCricket is a CD-ROM that contains a knowledgebase and several tutorials on mole crickets. The mole cricket knowledgebase provides information on all ten species found in the United States, including Hawaii, and Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This information covers distribution, description, life cycle, damage, and biological controls. It also includes an identification key for these species that makes heavy use of graphics and photographs. A separate control section lists information on damage for various crops, and chemical and biological control methods. Another section provides references for users interested in obtaining more detailed information from the scientific literature.
