1998 CD-ROMs From UF/IFAS
During 1998 UF/IFAS Office of Information Technologies produced and assisted in the production of six CD-ROMS covering a wide range of subject matter.
THE FLORIDA CITRUS CD-ROM The Florida Citrus CD-ROM is a comprehensive
citrus database for use by Florida citrus growers and
experts, County Extension Agents, and
homeowners. It provides information on such topics
as citrus varieties, nutrition, irrigation and water
management, cold protection, pest control, grove
management, and laws and safety standards. The
disc contains the latest version of the Florida Citrus
Pest Management Guide, which includes pesticide
and rate recommendations for a variety of citrus
pests. Interactive programs are included
on the Florida Citrus CD-ROM. TROPICAL FRUITS Designed for commercial growers, homeowners and
county extension agents, Tropical Fruits is an
interactive, multimedia, diagnostic expert system. It contains the TFRUIT*Xpert diagnostic system and
more than 60 extension fruit crop disorder
publications, as well as pest and disease
management guides. The disc helps identify disorders of avocado, carambola,
lychee, papaya, mango and "Tahiti" lime. FLORIDA PLANT SELECTOR Finding the right plant for the right place can be a
daunting task. The Florida Plant Selector is designed
to make these decisions easier. By choosing
conditions that match your specific requirements,
you will be presented with a list of appropriate plants
from which to choose.
More than 600 Florida annuals, perennials, trees,
shrubs, vines and ground covers are represented,
with color photographs and detailed information
about each plant. The disc also can be used to
identify plants you don't recognize. Indexed by
common and scientific names. THE WOODYBUG CD-ROM WoodyBug is a computerized, hypertext knowledgebase of pest
and beneficial arthropds of woody ornamentals of the southeast
United States. The pests species are listed under the major
categories of: aphids, borers, chewing insects, galls, lace bugs,
leafminers, scales, spider mites, thrips and whiteflies. There is
extensive Integrated Pest Management information that covers, in
depth, such topics as host plant resistance, biologically
compatible pesticides, scouting, monitoring and beneficial
organisms. PESTS IN AND AROUND THE HOME Pests In and Around the Home is a computerized
knowledgebase of pests of structures, lawns and landscapes. The
CD-ROM contains information on pest biology, life cycle,
identification, distribution, damage, and management. The
knowledgebase stresses the principles of Integrated Pest
Management. The program format allows users to quickly access
hundreds of scientific definitions, 150+ graphics and 300+
full-color photographs. MCRICKET CD-ROM MCricket is a CD-ROM that contains a knowledgebase and
several tutorials on mole crickets. The mole cricket
knowledgebase provides information on all ten species found in
the United States, including Hawaii, and Puerto Rico and the U.S.
Virgin Islands. This information covers distribution, description,
life cycle, damage, and biological controls. It also includes an
identification key for these species that makes heavy use of
graphics and photographs. A separate control section lists
information on damage for various crops, and chemical and
biological control methods. Another section provides references
for users interested in obtaining more detailed information from
the scientific literature.
