The OIT Business Systems area provides a range of mainframe and client-server software applications and programming services that assist the Office of Planning and Business Affairs in managing the institute's financial and human resources.

The OIT Customer Relations area provides an interface between IT and its diverse base of clients and stakeholders. This teams provides training materials and classes, telephone and web-based technical support through the Help Desk, and produces the OIT newsletter. This area also manages the services provided by the District Support Specialists.

OIT Network Systems operates a Wide Area Network (WAN) that extends to 90 off-campus units (67 County Extension Offices and 23 Research Centers) and 44 on-campus units (College of Veterinary Medicine, School of Forest Resources and Conservation, 22 academic departments and 20 support units). Support is also provided for videoconferencing.

OIT Server Systems provides all management, maintenance and operation of back-end software services such as e-mail, web, database, calendar, and other system wide applications used throughout the Institute. Other areas include system security and Active Directory authentication.

The OIT Research and Development area conducts applied research in interface and database technologies, and explores new and emerging software information technologies. Promising prototypes developed in this grant-funded area are eventually adopted for use in production systems.
The OIT Software Systems area provides production-level services in development of agricultural database systems and software applications. Information is delivered primarily through CD-ROM and the Web.
